We do have a great range of new and ex-demo equipment still looking for a new home though. In this shipment we received F221s, F121s, F218s, BR118s, Res2s, EvolutionXs, F1201.2s, Res1s, F88s, F101.2s, lots of different ground stack boards and rigging and a load of spare parts and recone kits too. Two stages of @funktiononeofficial audio, lighting, lasers and effects at @the_timberyard for @the_event_curator. Some technical aspects to this event included wireless mic on a violin moving between both areas, filling bubbles with UV activated smoke, designing and running a six-point 3D laser show, 60m of drapes at 6m high, and limited band soundchecks prior to the event. But the end results speak for themselves and we also proved to ourselves yet again just how capable smaller Funktion-One configs are for even larger spaces. The Resolution1 / BR121 FOH set up for the inside space held it's own and is really one of our 'go-to' set ups and at a very keen price point. Throw us your next challenging event.....

Some gigs are good and others are absolutely EPIC - and this was one of the latter. @eatthebeatmelbourne are well known for throwing a good party and we love their energy, passion and attention to detail. This event in Old Melbourne Gaol was spread over two areas with the main floor being three levels inside the Gaol itself. The second gig of the @wanderlustausnz tour with @xavierruddofficial was at the @gccec. Fantastic performances from all involves yet again and a true professional service from Rhane and his team at GCCEC.

The first of three Wanderlust True North events - the first on being at Carlton's Royal Exhibition Building starring Xavier Rudd - Official and Nick Broadhurst. Production Management by Sound Experience with a massive shout out to Front of House Productions AUS who went above and beyond with staging, audio and lighting systems. Unfortunately the winter chills are still here. A sensational performance in a sensational venue. @toorakshule Simon Tedeschi was joined by @matjodrell for a few intimate numbers at Toorak Synagogue for his solo recital of Gershwin and Me, presented by @liveatyours Congratulations to all - a sell out crowd and a very memorable night. A pleasure to be of service with staging (that piano was heavy!), audio and lighting.

Melbourne is blessed with an abundance of beautiful venues and @sophia.prahranarcade is packed with character and historical significance - once being the studio of famous local artist David Bromley (@bromleyandco) for 13 years. We recently had the chance to transform the two event spaces into a parents long table dinner and a kids glow-in-the-dark wonderland. A carefully designed and operated light show ensured that the night went through several transformations whilst the DJ made the @funktiononeofficial F1201s and BR118s sing. We believe that any event can take advantage of the superior atmosphere created by Funktion-One sound. Drapes, LED screen, wireless mics, truss and a huge amount of battery parcans throughout the venue were also supplied by Sound Experience. Thanks to @eventsbyphil for trusting us to deliver the goods.

A return to the fabulous @@jackalopehotels - Mornington Peninsula for a four-part wedding care of @amyvaughancreative Pre-ceremony drinks, a ceremony on the terrace with an amazing sunset, Dinner in Doot Doot Doot and then an afterparty. Excellent tunes from @nicodeoki , live harp and horn from Perolas, live Balalaika from Panteli and more horns from Nick and Tom. A range of @qscaudio speakers were used along with @soundcraftmixers, @allenandheath mixers, @pioneerdjglobal equipment and @shure wireless mics.

We love the opportunity to bring our full production capabilities to an event and over the last couple of weeks we have done three extraordinary events that have challenged our creativity, stretched our technical skills and have gone off with a bang. (Not an actual 'bang' I should add :) This event at the beautiful @the.luminare in South Melbourne included @funktiononeofficial sound system, @pioneer__dj backline, @allenandheath SQ mixer, 4x 6watt laser show, effects, truss, lighting, @shure wireless mics, etc, etc. All operated to perfection by our experienced and dedicated crew. Not one but two ANZAC ceremonies delivered recently on a beautiful morning in Melbourne. An early 4.30am start at Oakleigh Carnegie RSL Community Club & Live Music Venue for the Dawn Service with around 2,000 people and then onto Seaford RSL Sub Branch for a 10am ceremony with well over 3,000 people attending. Great coverage of the large crowds at both events from our inventory of @qscaudio equipment including K10.2 and K12.2 self powered cabinets. Lest we forget

A quick Easter trip to Sydney for the next @wanderlustausnz True North event with @michaelfranti this time at Paddington Town Hall An amazing canvas on which to spread light and sound - with a big thanks to The Music Box for Production. We are supporting the next tour in September with none other than @@xavierruddofficial

And that's a wrap on another unique and fabulous @wanderlustausnz True North event, this time in the Melbourne @plazaballroom. It was a pleasure to work alongside the very professional Marriner Group to deliver this event which included custom gobo projections and additional battery powered uplights throughout the venue. Sound Experience also provided Production Management services ensuring a smooth event from start to finish. Amazing on-stage performances from @michaelfranti and @emilywurramara_ and perfectly led by @_sarahwilson_. Onto Sydney and the Paddington Town hall next weekend...

A pleasure to be part of the team once again with @monashcouncil for the 2023 Live at Warrawee event in @oakleigh We have assisted at this event for several years with this being the biggest and best yet with @piercebrothersmusic, @darcyspiller , @pirritumusic,@womenofsoulau, and many more. The event was co-presented by 'On The Road Again', a Victorian Government initiative, to bring live music back across the state. Thanks @creative_vic for kick-starting our industry.

New equipment added to the hire and production inventory... @antari.official M8 Smoke machine and M7X Stage Fog Jet for some serious wow factor. The M8 has 1700Watts of power and a truly massive amount of output suited to larger event deployments. The M7X Stage Fog Jet can blast fog up to 10 metres high and has high pigment LEDs for a coloured jets. It can blast at virtually any angle, even upside down. We can send out the M7X with super fast dissipating fluid for a true CO2 style effect. Ready for your next event....

A solid riser/table is one of the most important and obvious parts of an event - you never know when the DJ might want to jump up on it and use it as an 'Ego Riser' :) Sound Experience has a huge range of performance risers/tables, skirting, etc. Drum risers, roller risers, staging decks, skirts, and everything you might ever need to go on them too.

@animals_dancing - what a gig! Huge in every sense of the word. That Funktion-One sound and those mighty lasers - what a way to bring in the New Year.

Great to be back on 'Pride Patrol' with the @poofdoof crew. A very warm set up at @werribeepark for @letthemeatcakenyd @funktiononeofficial Res1.5s and BR121s plus @pioneerdjglobal CDJ300s and DJM-V10 plus a bunch of LED lighting fixtures to keep it colourful.

Getting very excited in the lead up to a huge New Years Eve event for the @animals_dancing crew. Two stages of audio and lighting - 4 truck loads in total. Lots of purple speakers! The main floor boasting a @funktiononeofficial quad system with 16x 21" subs along with Evo6, Res2, Res1.5, Res1, BR121, BR118, F1201 and PSM18 speakers across the two stages. Plus we get to bring out our 15W lasers again too. Loving it!

November and December were huge months for us with live bands and the @billybonesclub Bones Fest event at @thethirddaymelbourne saw the @funktiononeofficial Evo6E and F221 system take care of five! @booseeka, @elizaandthedelusionals, @theterrysband, @pvckerup and @dearsundayband along with a host of DJs made this seriously one of the best small live events of 2022. A pleasure to be of service with a host of @allenandheath, @shure, @sennheiser, and @qsc equipment with backline being provided by @melbournebackline.

@cityofmelbourne's Roller Rink | 10-24th December 2022 | Carlton, Melbourne VIC 'Get your skates on! Christmas has come to Carlton with a pop-up roller skating rink in Argyle Square run by the sensational @maltshoprollers. Whether it’s whole-family fun or a cute date night, roll around to classic tunes with free entry and $5 skate hire.' A pleasure to be part of this amazing pop up event with Sound Experience supplying truss, sound and lighting in true 'Xanadu' style. Last weekend also saw DJs perform from the stage area through a small @funktiononeofficial sound system brought in for the three special evenings. This is a Christmas Festival event, presented by City of Melbourne with support from the Victorian Government.

The Res1.5 - a 90-degree dispersion speaker with a a unique 5" axhead-loaded cone speaker that eliminates the need for a compression driver. Twinned with the 21" BR121 - providing deep sub-bass extension. Probably one of the largest weekends we have ever done at Sound Experience - 12 events overall which pretty much cleared the shelves at the warehouse and saw a team of 9 people spread across Melbourne in four different trucks and vans. From the @cityofgreaterdandenong Carols, to the @flybuys end of year party, the @dangerousgoods.ent Third Day event, the @telstra Xmas bash, and the @cityofmelbourne Roller Rink in Carlton, we delivered truss, staging, lights and sound to one and all. Amazing to see the variety of events that we now cover and the range of equipment that we can offer to our many valued clients. What will 2023 have in store for us!

It really doesn't get a lot more fun than that. Sunshine at the beach, a couple of thousand people having fun, a load of Funktion-One (Official) speakers and amplifiers, a whole bunch of new lighting, 15watt lasers, oh - and Funkform, Nick Warren and Hernan Cattaneo providing an amazing soundtrack to the perfect day. Sound and lighting for a small to medium sized event - no problems. This set up took only 1.5 hours to deliver and set up and only 45 minutes to take away. @funktiononeofficial Resolution 2 and Infrabass 218 combo plus @qsc K8.2 foldback speaker, DJ riser/table and skirt, @pioneerdjglobal CDJ3000s, DJM900nxs2 and RMX-1000. A couple of sticks of 290mm Box truss and eye-catching Pixbar12x12 and T6Par lighting.

Variety is the spice of life and we have been involved with some very different projects recently. The construction of three interactive Xmas bell swings for @city_of_melbourne_council was challenging and rewarding, given the weather conditions and construction requirements. If you are down in Queensbridge Square in Southbank, make sure that you give these a go. Designed by Amigo & Amigo (amigoandamigo.com) they light up and play music when swung on.

Incredible live music from @fanna_fi_allah at the Collingwood Town Hall for @drrnbentertainment. The audience was whipped into a frenzy at times, perhaps in no small part from the @funktiononeofficial Resolution2, Infrabass218 (front of house) and F1201 (delay) speakers. In-fill and stage monitors were @qsc K8.2 and K10.2 with an @allenandheath SQ-5 console and DX168 digital stagebox. Wireless battery parcans with a wireless DMX lighting also provided by Sound Experience.

Great to get our 'Ghost' DJ riser back out and in the Melbourne Royal Botanic Gardens and the re-opening of The Terrace. Then it's a case of getting the cables perfect... ...attention to detail - that's us.

A huge weekend of multiple events but also multiple stages at @Abbotsford Convent for the @daybreak_festival and the @espacenoir crew. And what an unbelievable event it was! With 28 boxes of @Funktion-One (Official) cabinets deployed (and we still had a bunch left in the warehouse). @Funktion-One (Official) EVO6Es and F121s being spruced up ready for a huge weekend of four stages of violet craziness at the @Abbotsford Convent and Espace Noir's @Daybreak Festival.

Pop-Up activation for @teampwr including a @Funktion-One (Official) Res1.5/BR121 system, wireless mics, truss supporting lasers and lighting plus multiple monitors for game play. Specific lighting across the whole 524 Flinders venue for media wall washes and uplighting. When it comes to lighting, we have you covered from every angle.

Night Light - Continuum QSC KS112, and K8.2 powered speakers deployed in Prahran Square for Projectionteknik to provide the sound track to the amazing projection show. Wireless signal sent from the control centre atop the nearby car park down to the audio system.

All the bells and whistles for Will Clarke. Pioneer DJ DJM-V10, CDJ3000s, RMX-1000 and DJS-1000. Quite a sexy looking cockpit.

Our second audio installation into the Si Señor Restaurant chain - this time in Hampton. A series of different 4" and 6" indoor and outdoor speakers from Audac to suit all the different areas of the restaurant with support from a 10" subwoofer secreted within the built in seating. The amplifier rack sits upstairs with music being played wirelessly from iPads via the in-house WiFi network. Individual control of volume and EQ via a customised App that is also completely free! And the food here is incredible - check it out...

And the Sound Experience hire inventory continues to grown with the following speaker cabinets added to the shelves... Funktion-One (Official) F221, F121, BR115, PSM18, F101 and Evo6E. We also have increased our stock of BR121, BR118, F81 and Res1.5 cabinets too. Backed up with amplifiers that include D, E and Q Series with Q60, D100Q, D100Q-DSP, D120 and E45 units. Sound Experience now stand in a unique position to be able to make every and any event sound it's absolute best.

It might of been cold out but the Dandenong curry festival was a good way to keep warm. Thanks for the amazing energy, community, and food! Providing sound and lighting for large bands, and interactions on stage, in-front of the stage and everywhere around the stage is always a challenge but everything on the day was smooth sailing. Hope to come back next year!

It was certainly time for the Funktion-One (Official) sound system to be given a new lease of life at Brown Alley and we were just the right organisation to do it with our experience of installing, operating and maintaining Funktion-One speakers. Not the most pleasant job so far - the speakers were going rotten from years of drinks spills and needed a complete renovation with the mold being killed, followed by the damaged paint and wood being removed. The boxes were then repainted and the system reconfigured in a more appropriate format for the room. A quad system became a stereo system with larger 'double' front speaker stacks. Amplifiers were cleaned and the BSS system file was updated and reworked with a final tune to seal the deal. The damaged PSM18 monitor wedge was also repaired with a replacement driver. A great opportunity to assist with making Melbourne's purple speaker population look and sound the best they can. :)

Andy and Sound Experience

As a family-owned business, Sound Experience is about me - Andy Simpson – as well as the equipment and service my team and I provide. So, I’d love to share a bit about me, why I’ve built Sound Experience and why I love what I do.

When did my career start?

Since 1992 I’ve worked in the UK, EU and India on trade shows and corporate events, managing technical production for a range of major brands. I’ve managed event contracts from a few thousand to many millions of dollars both in the public and private sectors.

I moved to Australia in 2002 and have been instrumental in helping to deliver a diverse range of private and corporate events including the Australian Open, the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, St. Kilda Festival, Rainbow Serpent Festival as well as events for the RACV, Shell, SEEK.com, Calvin Klein Jeans and the Dandenong Market.

Every weekend me and the team also deliver a range of private events including weddings, house parties and bespoke activations such as site openings or even Anzac Day dawn services.

What gets me out of bed?

I’m passionate about sound – my wife thinks I was a bat in a past life as I hear things that most others don’t. I also love creating events that people remember, be it punters who are dazzled by a live DJ or band, community members who attend a local council event, or hosts that can enjoy their wedding worry free as they know I have everything under control.

What stands out in your my memory?

I love some of the iconic locations I get to visit – from a wedding at Jackalope on the Mornington Peninsula to a private party on the top level of the Eureka Tower, a Funktion-One sound system installation at an exclusive Darwin venue to event managing VIVID in the Sydney Botanical Gardens, my office is located in some truly spectacular spots, all of which are memorable.
